The Learn Your Part Story

Learn Your Part started as a practical solution to a real problem. A chorus director in a high school in New York City was having some trouble with her chorus members. Many weren't learning their parts well, and relied on others in the group to carry their section. There was really very little in-school time for drilling sections individually.

The director instructed the chorus to learn their parts at home. This was not really successful, because many members were not perfect sight readers, and not everyone had a keyboard at home to play their part on.

The school computer teacher (who doubled as the accompanist for the chorus) had an idea. He could sequence the numbers, part by part, and post the files on the school web site. He discovered that there was a browser plug-in that would display the notation and play the part online (Noteworthy Composer).

The results were impressive. Students were coming in to rehearsal already knowing their parts!

The idea for a web site dedicated to online part-learning was a natural follow-up. The result: LearnYourPart.com!
